As much as they keep insisting they are working on posture and "releasing" tension, something much worse is happening... They are disconnecting us from our biological foundations. I have said before and I'll say it again. Humans did not adapt their muscles with the tempos and force vectors found in yoga. Even in it's best scenarios, yoga does not hit gait biorhythms. It's never been close.Thousands of years ago, humans did not have access to slow motion video. Nor did they have access to watch guys like barry sanders or usain bolt run in slow motion. Yogis were never meant to solve this problem. They were limited by the frames per second that they witnessed reality.It really is a bummer. So many people go into yoga with the intention of personal improvement. It's too bad the millions seeking this improvement are sold ideas that do not relate to improvement. The mind and body can't be separated. Meaning that if you seek to be spiritual (connect to nature), your body has to be intact in order to make that connection. For people that spend all day sitting or students that carry heavy backpacks, these muscles get weak and loosened under poor posture. Adding the row can be a way to prevent further rounding. 1) Approach the barbell, grip with hands outside legs, and lower your butt to flatten your back.2) Lift the bar by pulling from the elbows. Tips1) Try not to bend the wrists. We don't want to pull from there.2) Keep constant tension to prevent back rounding. 3) Lifting the bar to your upper stomach will engage the traps and rhomboids more. Bringing it to your lower stomach will engage the lats more. Every single one of my clients starts with a variation of this. Work up to being able to do 50% of your body weight for 10-15 reps as a great starting point. ..If you can’t keep a solid neutral posture or go into a full depth without “tipping over” its too much weight or you need to work on the basics more (ex. Using subtle movements, like nodding the chin to chest and turning side to side, the ball gradually softens the muscles at the base of the skull - the muscles often responsible for producing headaches and leaving us feeling tense. Stay in this position for 2-5mins and you will also notice the mind drift into a state of relaxation. Bending or lifting would cause debilitating pain. Session #40) Deadlifting 125lbs for reps with no pain at all. Able to walk and lift normally again. Huge improvement in overall body awareness, confidence and strength. Big shout out to Angelica for all the hard work she has put in over the past 5 months. No surprise she has accomplished what she has with the dedication this lady has for her training. Driving in an hour from out of town twice a week is a big time commitment but worth it in the long run. I also use it for improving my squat and deadlift positions as well. It’s so basic yet so profound to work on expanding the upper back, puling the ribs back and in, and relaxing the the lats and upper traps.
